Glass slows light down. Vacuum doesn't.

Light in optical fibre moves at about two thirds of its speed in vacuum. Vesperidys carries your game traffic over the long part of the route through low-Earth orbit instead, and you get the difference back as ping. $5 a month.

An estimate from physics, not a measurement of our network and not a statement of coverage. Diagram is to scale.

How this is calculated

Round-trip propagation delay only. Fibre: great-circle distance × 1.4 for real cable routing, at the speed of light in glass (refractive index 1.468). Orbit: an 800 km leg up and another down, the same distance flown at 550 km altitude × 1.15 for hops between satellites, at the speed of light in vacuum, plus 4 ms for gateways and ground links. Your home connection and the game server add the same delay to both paths, so they are left out.

What happens to a packet

Nothing about your game changes. The route between you and its server does.

  1. It leaves your PC

The Vesperidys client picks up game traffic only. Browsing, downloads and voice chat stay on your normal connection.

  2. It leaves the ground

Your ISP carries it to the nearest Vesperidys gateway, which sends it up to a satellite a few hundred kilometres overhead.

  3. It crosses in vacuum

Satellites pass it along by laser. No glass, no detours around coastlines, no undersea cable landing three countries away.

  4. It lands by the server

A gateway near the game's data centre hands it over. Replies come back the same way.

Read this before you pay

Going to orbit and back costs time. On some routes that cost is bigger than the saving, and we would rather you knew now.

Short routes get slower, not faster
If the game server is within roughly 2,700 km of you, fibre wins. Playing on a server in your own region? Keep your $5.
We can't fix your last mile
Wi-Fi interference, a congested home line, or a console on the far side of three walls add the same delay whichever path your packets take afterwards.
Lower ping is expected, not guaranteed
Satellites move. Traffic is handed from one to the next, and conditions change with load and weather at the gateways. Results vary by route and by hour.
Your game's rules still apply
We change the network path, never the game or its traffic. Whether third-party routing is allowed in a given title or tournament is for you to check with its publisher or organiser.

Questions

Do I need a satellite dish?

No. You reach our nearest gateway over the internet connection you already have. The satellite link runs between our gateways, not from your house.

Isn't satellite internet slow?

The old kind is. Geostationary satellites sit about 35,800 km up, and the round trip alone takes around half a second. Low-Earth-orbit satellites fly at a few hundred kilometres, so the trip up and down costs a few milliseconds, and the long stretch in between is covered faster than fibre can manage.

Will my ping always go down?

No. It depends on how far you are from the game server and on how your ISP routes you today. See the limits, and try the estimator at the top of this page for your route.

Is this a VPN?

It tunnels game traffic along a faster path, which is technically similar. It is not a privacy tool, does not carry your other traffic, and should not be used as one.

What runs it?

The client runs on Web.

What can you see of my traffic?

We see where game packets are going and how long they take, because we have to in order to route and bill. We do not inspect or keep their contents. The privacy policy lists everything we record and for how long.

How do I cancel?

From your account, or by writing to [email protected] from the address you signed up with. Details are in Cancellation and refunds.
